Together towards a better future
… yes. You are the bridge to a better future.
During our 45-year long journey we have faced many challenges. Nevertheless, we carried on.
The summer of 2006 was our most difficult challenge, but we have persevered and with your efforts and support, we will continue…
The devastation left by the war machine can only be described as catastrophic. Dozens of bridges were destroyed, entire villages and neighborhoods in cities ruined, power stations, oil depots and factories damaged, the sea polluted and unexploded ordnance scattered in gardens and over farmers’ lands. The human cost has been enormous, with entire families annihilated in systematic massacres.
What is certain is that normalizing the situation in all its aspects (demographic, economic, and social) will be a gigantic mission. It will need the concerted effort of governments, organizations, and communities, not only to eliminate the effects of the war but also to keep up the morale of the people and establish stability for justice and sustainable development.
Immediately after the cessation of hostilities, we rushed back to the South only to find stones – once homes – scattered along with toys, books, and the memories and the echoes of our children’s laughter…
Our first task was to convey a message of solace and hope for everyone. We made sure that this message was carried with every social and medical team that visited the villages. We were welcomed by thousands of disoriented people with lost expressions, searching for answers from everyone, especially from us, and we were there for them. So, we continue to deliver vital services through our care, our educational and our vocational programs.
We returned to our homes in the South only to discover that many of us had lost a brother, a father, a son, or another dear one. With such pressing demands, we postponed many of our usual activities including the annual gatherings of the charitable banquets. The stories of Batoul, Ali, Ina’am, Ghadir and Samar needed ears to listen, eyes to reflect care, and wide hearts to look after them. Every child has a story to tell and will need many long years of care and support in order to bring serenity and security back into their life.
In the hope that our wounds will heal, and our hearts be refilled with warmth, we believe that deliverance will only arise from hope.
And with your determination and help,
hope will shine.
